CoBrie Restaurant Helps Ronald McDonald House Ottawa
Sarah from Ronald McDonald House Charities in Ottawa spoke with Chef Brian from CoBrie Restaurant about the importance of a nutritious meal plan.
How Ronald McDonald House Helps Families
Sarah told us about how Ronald McDonald House helps the families that stay there. She shared some of the challenges the pandemic caused and the alternative solutions they had to come up with to sustain their efforts. Their Meals that Heal program had to be completely revamped. No volunteers were allowed to enter the premises.
Having a sick child is stressful. Having to move a long distance for ongoing treatment adds an immense stress to something already difficult. In the house, the charity tries to provide all that is needed to alleviate some of the stress so that the caregiver can just focus on being present to the child. One main ingredient here is to provide a kitchen supplied with meals that are ready when the families need them. This is often done by volunteers. The pandemic put a halt to this.
CoBrie Restaurant & Catering Prepared Meals Plan
The Cobrie Restaurant has a program of nutritious prepared meals. They started this for busy families that had no time to shop, prepare and cook and wanted healthy gourmet nutritiously balanced meals.
Chef Brian has 40 years experience working in some of the top restaurants an hotels in Canada and abroad. Because he was hit with a major health issue a few years back, Brian had to adjust his eating habits. This inspired him to provide alternatives to patrons in his restaurants. He started working closely with a Dr, Of Nutrition to create menus that were fully adapted to nourish those on special diets and also be delicious.
Building a Business Builds Community
During the CoBrie FALL foodFEST, the restaurant made a special deal offering 4 meals for the price of 3. They are offering this either for individuals, families and specifically as in opportunity for the larger community to gift it to the families in need while supporting their sick child.
Creative solutions are needed always but especially during these difficult times of the pandemic. Our businesses and restaurants are at the heart of a thriving community. They continuously offer goods and services to make our lives better at the same time provide for their families, employ other families and grow the local economy.
Charities are there to help us when we need an extra boost. The CoBrie FALL foodFEST has made it a win win win solution where we all are invited to participate.
